The African American Firefighter Museum in Los Angeles opened in 1997. Black firemen have served LA for more than 100 years, starting with Sam Haskins, who was hired in 1892 and killed while responding to a fire in 1895, according to the museum's website.

A three-car train will be tested on the new Expo Rail Line this week on the tracks from Vermont Avenue to National Boulevard from 5 to 10 p.m. today through Thursday, according to Stacy S. Yamato of Metro.
The train will stop at all intersections and flaggers will be present.

*Editor's note: I have to give props to the intrepid and persistent Leslie Evans, the chair of the Public Safety Commission for the North Area Neighborhood Development Council.
