Manual Arts High School continues to archive their 100-year-old history

 

With the second week of archiving behind us, we find the real jewels of Manual Arts High School—the student body willingness to work hard to preserve the reach history bestowed on to them. With the help of senior high school student Alexis, the archiving portion of the Manual Arts High School collection is running smoothly and on schedule to be finished by the end of June.

Archiving a one-hundred year old treasure

The month of April is a very exciting month at Manual Arts High School. The long awaited revitalization of the one-hundred year old newspaper and yearbook collection has started. 

 

The Manual Arts High School newspaper collection goes back as far as 1913. This is why a digitization and archival project was extremely needed. The archiving project will keep the collection alive and manageable for the next decades in order to have current students, alumni, staff, and faculty…

A day at USC School for Communication and Journalism

On March 2nd the journalism class at Manual Arts High School took a day off work to go to USC School for Communication and Journalism to see and learn more about USC's journalism program. Their arrival to USC was greeted by USC graduate students who offered them a tour of the department's installations. 

 

The students then followed to hear a talk by Felix Gutierrez, professor at the Department for Communication and Journalism, who gave a lecture about his own newspaper…

A young Toiler journalist presents at USC

Manual Arts High School accommodates more than 2,500 students year round and is home to the oldest high school newspaper collection in Los Angeles. During the late summer of 2010 the Manual Arts High School Toiler Times newspaper began circulation again after a three year-long hiatus.
