Dudamel fever spreads to EXPO Center
When Gustavo Dudamel, the new music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, made his “welcoming” appearance at the Hollywood Bowl on October 3, on hand were some lucky young musicians.

The EXPO Center Youth Orchestra, which is the first project of the Philnarmonic’s Youth Orchestra L.A. (YOLA), gave a rousing performance of a portion of the “Ode to Joy,” conducted by Dudamel himself.

El Sistema, the Venezuelan music education system, which nurtured Dudamel, inspired this first project of YOLA. It promotes youth development through music.

Participating students come mainly from within a five-mile radius of the EXPO Center and represent more than 60 public, charter, and private schools in South Los Angeles. Parents of these students can enroll in parent workshops.
