This year USC Kid Watch has made it a priority to arrange for police officers from the Los Angeles School Police Department, the Los Angeles Police Department and USC Department of Public Safety to visit a Family of Schools member every week.

The officers spend an hour during recess talking one on one and in groups to more than 300 kids in South Los Angeles.

The students sit in the patrol car, ask questions and take pictures with the officer.

This helps build a relationship between the officers and the students in the community. It makes it easier for students to ask for help. It makes it easier for the officer to be part of the neighborhood. Though some people my age remember the officers visiting their schools when they were students, this is something that doesn't happen often around here. At one of the schools I was told they hadn't had a patrol car visit the school and talk with student in seven years.

We just visited Weemes Elementary last week and going to the Foshay Learning Center next week. Keep a light on for us.
