An All New Season of United Shades Premieres THIS Sunday!!

I'm excited to share the 6th season of United Shades of America w/ you! This season was filmed during the height of COVID w/ all the protocols & precautions that entails. It was way scarier than the time I met the hooded guys.

Sunday’s premiere is set in The Bay Area & we're talking about defunding the police. I’ve lived almost half my life in the Bay & it has formed me into the person & performer I am today. And that’s why it was important to me to talk about the movement to defund the police, because fighting for a safe future for all is how I show love for my community. If there is any place in the country that consistently wrestles w/ the role of policing, it is here. Going back to The Black Panthers in Oakland; through the killing of Oscar Grant by BART police; through the creation of Black Lives Matter in 2013; to the killing of Mario Gonzalez by the Alameda Police this April, The Bay Area is always leading the conversation about what to do about policing in our Black, Indigenous, Latinx, & AAPI communities. I sincerely hope this episode is another step forward in that conversation @ home & around the country.

And that’s just the beginning! We’re taking on a bunch of big topics this season from Black Trans folks in Texas to Afrofuturism in Atlanta!

Don’t miss the premiere this Sunday, May 2 @ 10pm ET / 7pm PT on CNN, YouTube TV, & Hulu Live. - W.K.B.
