The USC Christian Social Work Caucus, the USC Interfaith Council, and People Assisting The Homeless (PATH) present a volunteer opportunity to provide housing for homeless neighbors living in the Silver Lake Neighborhood. On the morning of October 22, 23 and 24, volunteers will canvass Silver Lake's streets to conduct the vulnerability index survey. Through the vulnerability index survey, a homeless individual's health and housing needs will be measured in order to determine his or her level of vulnerability (vulnerability index). This vulnerability index will help place the most at-risk homeless neighbors into housing first. When the vulnerability index survey was conduct in Long Beach in 2009, volunteers surveyed over 300 homeless individuals. From those interviewed, over 80 individuals were placed into their own studio or apartment throughout Long Beach within one year. Due to it's success, PATH has expanded this effort into other neighborhood including Silver Lake. This is a great opportunity to interact with homeless neighbors and begin the process of housing.
