For the USC and Exposition Park neighborhoods in Los Angeles
USC was named an International Safe Community by the World Health
Organization Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion.
USC
joins a network of more than 200 communities around the world that have
met the organization's standards to promote safety and health
initiatives aimed at ensuring that individuals are protected from harm
in all aspects of their lives, whether they are at school or work or
reside in the surrounding communities.
USC President C. L. Max Nikias, USC Senior Vice President for
Administration Todd Dickey, and representatives from the World Health
Organization and the U.S. National Safety Council will commemorate the honor 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15, at Tommy Trojan in Hahn Plaza, followed by the annual USC Campus Safety Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Alumni Park.
The initiative encompasses all campuses, students, faculty, staff, and neighboring communities, such as University Park.
USC is the first academic institution in the world to be designated
as an International Safe Community by the World Health Organization
Collaborating Centre on Community Safety Promotion.
