A coalition of community groups joined the national
KnowHow2Go campaign, which is working to help prepare students for college.
The campaign helps young people, particularly
low-income students and those who are the first in their families to pursue higher education,
navigate the complex process of preparing for college.
“We would like to see more young people from Los Angeles County, especially those from low-income backgrounds, pursue their dreams of higher education,” stated Kim Thomas-Barrios, KnowHow2Go Committee Chair.
On Saturday, May 30th the Southern California College Access Network, an alliance of 20 community-based organizations, will convene 200 8th – 11th graders, college access professionals, foundation representatives and elected officials at the GRAMMY Museum in downtown LA to learn about the pathway to college.
SoCal CAN will announce the recipients of grants totaling $80,000 in the region to promote the KnowHow2Go campaign in the region.
The KnowHow2Go campaign is a grassroots initiative to encourage young people to actively pursue post-secondary education by reaching out to them, their parents and other adult influencers in their communities.
The campaign will run public service advertisements about college access in multiple markets and sponsor an informative interactive Web site, KnowHow2Go.org, to guide young people and their influencers through the college preparation process. The Web site also links students to local resources for assistance.
