"The Pan Afrikan People(s) Arkestra is back, this time at the NEW World Stage! The Ark hasn’t played at the stage since I was like 12 (maybe younger?) so this is mad historical."
"For those who don’t know, The Ark is a big band/collective of artists and civil rights activists, founded by Horace Tapscott all the way back in 1961, dedicated to bringing real music to the community. Members range young and old, men and women, veteran and novice, all united to educate, empower and uplift our people."
"The World Stage is a venue/community center that has been the beating heart of Leimert Park since it was founded by Kamau Daáood and Billy Higg(i)ns in 1989. Programs include a women’s afrikan drum circle, a poetry workshop, weekly drum set lessons (where your boy got his start at age 3), jam sessions, (Jazz Workshop) and concerts every weekend. Catch an amazing band at an amazing place, Saturday the 27th at 9pm! BE THERE." - Mekala Session, Co-Band Leader
