Event Description

The Harmony Project is an award-winning research-based music program targeting underserved Los Angeles youth who live in at-risk areas.

Starting with only 36 kids, in 2001, the Harmony Project now has over 800 students. By reaching out to underserved youth in at risk areas of Los Angeles, the Harmony Project promotes positive youth development through on-going year-round music lessons and performance opportunities.

For the last 2 years the Harmony Project has been the multi-year recipient of the nation's highest honor for humanities programs from the President's Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. Fifteen students were recently awarded 2010 Banchik Scholarships. Each student will be the first in his/her family to attend college.

The Harmony Project Hip Hop Orchestra is led by Diane Louie, this performance-based ensemble is open to all Harmony Project strings and community string players. It works to promote the healthy growth and development of children by focusing on professional comportment, leadership skills, musical anthropology and musicianship

The event is free and donations are accepted.
