Musicians of all ages & skill levels are invited to participate in a jam session hosted by the Ensemble at the renowned World Stage. A cultural landmark established by (J)azz drummer Billy Higgins & poet Kamau Daáood. The Stage has been the heart of L.A.'s (J)azz scene since 1989 & produced some of the leaders in today's creative music. The Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Performance Ensemble @ UCLA includes: Roni Eytan - harmonica, Aidan Lombard - trumpet, Lenard Simpson - alto sax, Chris Lewis -tenor sax, Paul Cornish - piano, Emma Dayhuff - bass & Malachi Whitson - drums. These musicians are students @ the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Performance @ the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music. This intensive, graduate-level college program enables a select group of the world’s most promising young musicians to study tuition-free w/ legendary (J)azz artists & educators including NEA Jazz Masters Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Dianne Reeves & Wayne Shorter, among others. (formally known as Thelonious Monk Institute)
