For the USC and Exposition Park neighborhoods in Los Angeles
Foshay Learning Center, a local K-12 institution in the USC Family of Schools, is hosting the 2nd Annual Foshay 5K on the Historic Exposition Blvd to promote healthier living, bolster the bonds between USC and the Foshay families, inspire community participation, and fund-raise for student materials and activities.
The inner city brings many challenges for students growing up in a socio-economically disadvantaged community. In the recent “Great Recession” Foshay students have been severely impacted with parents losing jobs, declining wages, and lost homes. As a South Los Angeles neighborhood school, Foshay wishes to provide the tools and opportunities for our students to thrive in the 21st century.
In order to close the Digital Divide that exists in low income communities and Title I schools such as Foshay, our students must have access to computers and tablets in every classroom. Smart Boards also help to engage students in rigorous inquiry/problem-based learning. These are essential tools and opportunities for our students to compete with top tier schools locally, nationally, and internationally.
We hope you can join us on February 1st to run as one community and help raise essential funds for our children.
Course Description:
Participants will walk or run on the Historic Exposition Blvd from Western to Vermont and back to Western. Runners and walkers will see the Natural History Museum, the Science Center, the Rose Garden, the University of Southern California and other wonderful sites.
