Reduce power during wildfires, city urges

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power has taken precautionary steps

after the Station Fire threatened power lines that feed electricity to the city, according to by Jason Ma at Neon Tommy.



The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power said the La Cañada Flintridge fire threatens 500 kilovolt transmission lines northeast of the Acton area.

Cash for Clunkers ends Monday

Update – "Low-level" Radioactive container stolen in 2003, then dumped in South LA: no health danger

The Associated Press update says that the box contained a specialized surveying device and posed no health danger. KTLA reported on Thursday reported a "radioactive container" was found on a street in South Los Angeles, still no update to says it's all clear.

Breaking News - Radioactive container dumped at West 109th place

A hazardous-materials team is investigating a report of a "radioactive container" found on a street in South Los Angeles.



KTLA reports the item was found in the 100 block of West 109th Place about 1:25 p.m. It is "emitting a small amount of radiation", but no one was hurt.
