Martin Luther King Parade 2011 in Los Angeles, Monday Jan. 17, starts at MLK Western & ends in Leimert Park Village

Empowerment Congress at USC features newly elected Attorney General Kamala Harris; Town Hall Jan. 15

The 19th Annual Empowerment Congress Summit will feature Attorney-General elect Kamala D. Harris and USC President C.L. Max Nikias .



The Jan. 15 event is at USC's Bovard Auditorium in the middle of its campus near Figueroa Street and Exposition Park Boulevard from 8 a.m.  to noon.

Crime at historic lows in University Park, West Adams, Expo Park and South Los Angeles

Los Angeles ended the year with less than 300 killings – something that hasn't happened since 1967, when the population was almost 30% smaller.

 

Imagine in 1992, there were more than 3 homicides a day. In 2001 there were two every day. Last year there was less than one. (Great graphics from the LATimes.com below.)…
