This talk and book signing with asha bandele, author and former senior editor at Essence, and artist, organizer and co-founder of Black Lives Matter Patrisse Khan-Cullors, explores their new book, When They Call You a Terrorist, which takes an intimate look at Khan-Cullors’s time growing up in Van Nuys, California, weaving her experiences into the larger picture of how predominantly black and Latino neighborhoods are under constant systemic attack. Moderated by Melina Abdullah, professor and chair of Pan-African Studies at California State University, Los Angeles, this program is presented in conjunction with Eso Won Books.
