Two-Episode Season Finale of United Shades of America on Sunday Sunday 8/30 ep. 1 at 9PM ET/6PM PT + ep. 2 at 10pm ET/7pm PT on CNN On Sunday night we're ending season five w/ special back-to-back episodes! 1st we're headed to NYC to talk w/ Iranian Americans & then we're going to LA's skid row to talk w/ unhoused folks about the city's housing crisis. Iranian-Americans in New York W/in the conventional American imagination, Iran is too often associated w/ little that is good: the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the Iran hostage crisis, & its nuclear program. But the United States & Iran are as connected as they are oppositional––deeply intertwined through culture & politics. Come along as I talk to recent Iranian immigrants & those who came here decades ago to learn about their American experience.

This section of downtown LA is the epicenter of the nation’s devastating housing crisis & home to a community of thousands of houseless individuals whose tents have become the marker of failed policy & economic inclusion in our country. I met w/ folks who call “The Row” home & folks who are compelled to help before COVID-19 hit, & they need our attention & support now more than ever.
