For the USC and Exposition Park neighborhoods in Los Angeles
A new skyscraper in downtown Los Angeles is now the tallest building west of the Mississippi River.
On Saturday, construction workers placed a ten-ton spire atop the Wilshire Grand Center tower and bolted it into place, giving the single 1,099-feet, 73-story skyscraper the new distinction.
The Wilshire Grand Tower is now the tallest building in Los Angeles and also the tallest building west of the Mississippi River. It is 81 feet higher than the nearby U.S. Bank Tower, which held the tallest building record since 1989.
