Scott Glover of the LA Times reports:
"The grand opening was essentially a science street fair, with exhibits
on sound waves, avionics, submersibles, wind tunnels and lots of other
stuff. All were designed to draw kids in with cool demonstrations, then
reveal the science behind the spectacle."
Iridescent opened its science clubhouse Saturday on 23rd Street between
Figueroa and Flower streets.
USC Viterbi engineering professor Tara Chklovski started the nonprofit, which has trained more than 300 college-level engineering students, mainly from USC, to teach science. Now 5,000 children, and their parents, from our neighborhood are smarter.
Iridescent is expanding to 40 schools in New York after winning a $2.3-million grant from the U.S. Navy.
Iridescent has also earned funding
from the Good Neighbors Campaign and was a finalists in the USC Stevens Institute Social Innovations Fast Pitch competition.
The two-time Emmy Award-winning L.A. County Holiday Celebration joyously returns to The Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion to celebrate its 64th anniversary with a free, live, in-person holiday spectacular.
