Politically Re-Active is Back by Popular Demand!

new episodes drop every Thursday wherever you get your podcasts

You did it! You asked us about it in airports, on Twitter, in Instagram comments, & during every Q&A session for the past three years. You kept asking, "When is Politically Re-Active coming back?" And we were like, "Wow people are not letting this go. It's been three years." So Hari & I reunited just in time to help us all make it through the election. We're going to make it through this election, right?! Please???

This Week: Cori Bush + Jon Lovett

On this week's episode, Cori Bush, the activist who will soon be Missouri's 1st black congresswoman, & Pod Save America co-host Jon Lovett talk activism, waiting for Republican heroes, & Hari's time in Hillary Clinton's mailroom.

Jake Tapper
The King of Truth
jake tapper

In the time between America voting in the 2020 presidential election & the results being known (which, in true 2020 fashion, went on forever) people around the world watching CNN were calmed by the steady voice & fine jaw of one Jake Tapper. As one of several of the network’s reporters who gave literal meaning to the job of 'anchor' during a truly weird week, Tapper kept those nervously watching in Pennsylvania or Paris, LA or London, grounded and sane. In the days following the result Tapper & his co-hosts alternated between snatches of sleep & holding the Trump administration’s feet to the fire by showing the receipts against every wild claim being made. Undoubtedly the humble JT would want this award given instead to Gritty: the Philadelphia Flyer’s chaotic orange mascot from his home city who danced in the streets when the news broke of Donald Trump's defeat.

Re: Trump finally signs Covid-19 relief & government funding bill

: Breaking

President Donald Trump signed the massive $2.3 trillion dollar coronavirus relief and government fund... into law Sunday night, averting a government shutdown that was set to begin on Tuesday, & extending billions of dollars in coronavirus aid to millions.

The President's signature, five days after he first threatened to not sign the bill, also ensures that Americans will now receive some much-needed relief.

Still, the President's delay in signing was costly

  • Because the President did not sign the bill by midnight on Saturday, those in the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance Program & the Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program will likely lose their payments for the final week of the year.
  • And all laid-off workers could lose a week of the $300 federal enhancement. That's because states can't provide benefits for weeks that start before programs are authorized.
  • Also, because of the delays, the estimated 12 million people in the two pandemic unemployment programs will see a break in payments of several weeks while state agencies reprogram their computers. But the benefits are retroactive.
