KPCC's Patt Morrisson addresses the issues of health inequities between South Los Angeles and los demas of Los Angeles.

A host of community activists talked about the need for more full service grocery stores and also the need to have the corner markets carry more fresh food. A few have already been converted and the result is an increase in profit for the store owner because they sell more product. The city is planning to loan these small local gracers money to buy refrigerators so they can store the produce.

Reporter Lauren Osen found that "there are 60 full-service grocery stores in South L.A. serving an average population of 22,156 residents per-store,
compared to 57 stores in West L.A. that serve only 11,150 residents on
average."

Yet even when there is a grocery store nearby, the food is often rotten.
