Fri. Feb. 21 -- Acclaimed violinist Karen Briggs does everything from urban soul to classical to hip-hop, & you can't sit still. At the World Stage, 4321 Degnan Blvd., Leimert Park 90008; 9pm (two sets); $25; www.theworldstage.org.

Sat. Feb. 22 -- Alex Cline's Limitless Light Ensemble pays tribute to the late AACM saxist-composer Joseph Jarman w/ a nine-member elevation including singer Dwight Trible & saxist Phillip Greenlief in a benefit for the World Stage.  Lila Garrett long time host of KPFK's "Connect The Dots" made her transition. (9:20) Mark's kind words & moment-of-silence for comrade-programmer.

(57:55) "...we've got some good things happenin', all over the place, around town & of course there's things going-on @ the beautiful World Stage in Leimert Park. (Village) We're gonna play some music from some folks that r goin' to play there this wk., as well. Very excited about those concerts... but we'll get 2 those... (1:23:50) That was Kahil El'Zabar's The Ritual. Ocean Deep is the name of the tune. Another Kind of Groove is the album... Kahil El'Zabar on drum/percussion u heard him on sansza, african finger piano... & Kahil El'Zabar is going 2b here, @ The World Stage. This Th., a matter of fact w/ his Ethnic Heritage Ensemble. The group that's been around 4 many moons. This is very excitin', Th. 6th, 9PM. (1:25:36) ...we heard from Ryan Porter (01:08 AM) from his recent release, the beautiful title, Force For Good. comin' from Coltrane's, wish 4 himself. 2 b force 4 good. I find that a guiding principal as well. Ryan Porter certainly does a beautiful album, Force For Good. the piece we heard, actual a cover tune, a great Rotary Connection called Memory Band. Famously sampled by a tribe called Quest. he put yet another spin-on-it, beautiful spin here... acoustic Jazz version of it, Ryan Porter trombone... again that's Memory Band (01:08 AM) Ryan Porter! is gon'na b w/ us @ TWS.
