Ciclavia - closing roads to cars opens them to a traffic of people and bikes; Los Angeles imports the best of Colombia

Los Angeles continues its visionary ways by hosting a Ciclovia. A what?



It's not a race or a grop ride. It's the temporary creation of a park connecting the city. Walkers and riders can joint in any where along the seven mile rout from East Los Angeles, through downtown, along 7th, paralleling Vermont to the 101.



In Bogata, Columbia they host ciclovía every Sunday on 80 miles of city streets.

*This just in - September is the time to get your flu shot. Flu season is approaching, or did it ever end?

The CDC responded to my question of WHEN exactly should we get a flu shot - "Get your flu vaccination in September or as soon as the vaccine is available. If you don't get the flu vaccine that early, you can get it any time during the flu season, into January and beyond. This is because the timing and duration (length) of the flu season varies. Flu outbreaks can happen as early as October, but flu activity often peaks in January or later."

LA Times Festival of Books comes to USC

The nation’s largest public literary festival drew 140,000 people and over 400 authors last year.
