The Mystery of the rose in the Garden and other tales of Esperanza

The Art & Science program, working with the Health Program is planning a series of public garden projects.

These will involve:

• Creating an organic food garden in Estrella Park. This will provide healthy produce to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it. It will also promote a connection with the Earth and growing plants, which is often lacking in the city.

Kid Watch Update



New beginnings—When Kid Watch kicked off this year with a Safety Task Force meeting, the fall trainings and school safety assemblies (with Jim Starr “the Singing Cop”), it also began with a new leader. Headless Halloween and Deadly Dia De Los Muertos events in University Park and Expo Park neighborhoods

There are dozens of free, spooky and safe events in the around USC. Most of the schools in the area have costume parades and contests. The students at St. Vincent's Catholic School celebrate All Saints Day instead and the kids dress up as their favorite saint.

Congresswoman Roybal-Allard Christens New Military Social Work Program

The USC School of Social Work and the USC Institute of Creative Technologies held a reception to celebrate the school's new military social work and veteran services program, the first of its kind at a research university, and recognize Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard for helping secure $3.2 million in federal funding for its development.

Class Helps City’s Gang Prevention Efforts

CAAM in Exposition Park one of top 5 black history museums in America

The Washington Times put the California African-American Museum in Exposition Park at the top of the list.



The museum opened during the 1984 Olympic Games and has undergone a major remodeling. It has 19th-century landscapes, modern paintings from the Harlem Renaissance and memorabilia from the estate of Tom Bradley, the only black mayor of Los Angeles. Mabuhay Festival celebrates Filipino-American cutlure

The 3rd Annual Mabuhay Festival is from 3pm-8pm, Saturday, Oct. 10, at McCarthy Quad on the USC campus to celebrate Pilipino American Heritage month.



Hosted by USC Troy Philippines, the Mabuhay Festival raises funds for "a God-centered, model microfinance nonprofit organizational charity" in the Philippines.
