Public discussion with Arthur Mitchell: Dancer, Choreographer, Educator and Founding Artistic Director of Dance Theatre of Harlem
The culminating event for the popular "Dance Theatre of Harlem: 40 Years of Firsts" exhibition will be a personal appearance and public discussion featuring Arthur Mitchell on Wednesday, June 30 at 7pm. Mr. Mitchell will discuss his renowned career beginning on the streets of Harlem to becoming the first African American to be a permanent principal dancer with a major ballet company to co-founding the Dance Theatre of Harlem School and then leading the DTH professional ballet company for four decades.
A Kennedy Center Honoree, recipient of the National Medal of the Arts and MacArthur Foundation “Genius” Fellowship, among many more honors, Mr. Mitchell has inspired thousands of young people around the world through his leadership in the dance world. CAAM is proud to have him grace our stage to reminisce about his lifetime of achievements.
