Event Description

All students K-12 in Los Angeles County are invited to participate in  Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's poster competition.

Contest Theme: “Continuing the Dream: African Americans at the Crossroad of Freedom and Equality.”

Contest participation requires the creation of an original artwork, by selecting a pioneer from the suggested list below. In your art work depict the impact your selected “pioneer” had on history and/or your everyday life:

Arthur Ashe, Barbara Jordan, Benjamin Banneker, Biddy Mason, Charles Richard Drew, Daniel Hale Williams, Florence Griffith-Joyner, Frederick Douglass, Harry Belafonte, Jesse Owens, Josephine Baker, Mae Jemison, Marian Anderson, Shirley Chisolm, Thurgood Marshall, Virginia Hamilton, W.E.B Du Bois, Wendell Scott
