Profile Information

A little about me:
Being green doesn't cost a thing! Empowering communities to gather together and make a difference in their environment, the Swap Out utilizes the art of reuse to reduce the need for consumption of new materials, and prevent usable items from being disposed in a landfill.

Local residents simply bring items they no longer need in good condition and can take anything they find for free. No one has to bring or take anything to enjoy.
Volunteers will sort through the items once dropped off (to take out anything dangerous, unclean, or unwanted) and display them in organized categories for the public to "shop" through. All leftover items that don't find a home will be donated to a local charitable organization.

Items can be anything from clothing, toys, games, dishes, books, working-electronics, crafts, jewelry and more. All items must be in good, working condition and must be small enough to carry.

The Swap Out is organized by event sustainability coordinator, Alyson Schill, who learned the art of free swaps in NY. Upon arriving in LA in 2013, she wanted to share this event with her new home, making new friends and giving back to the local community.
The Swap Out is run entirely by volunteers and charitable partners. It is made by the community for the community, any interested volunteers or contributors are invited to help it build and grow. Just email Alyson at swapoutla@gmail.com for more info.

SEEKING PARTNERS! The Swap Out needs help in promoting, printing, designing, volunteer lunch donations, volunteer recruitment, and especially LOCATION PARTNERS! If you have a location open to the public in a community that would be perfect for a Swap Out, please contact us!
